My View On What Is Paleo Diet

Image
Just a heads up people. I will not suddenly feel the need to start writing articles ‘defending’ paleo. I know where I stand on this matter and quite frankly – I am not going to put any oxygen into these ridiculous ‘diet wars’ that seem to be happening across the internet. I will also NOT be aligning myself with any extreme paleo views. In this community, we are all different and just because you support ‘paleo’ it does not mean that you support the views of everyone in the ‘paleo’ community. For the record my views currently are: Firstly – I know that in time my views will evolve. I am always open to new knowledge, education and research. Paleo does not automatically mean LC, VLC or even LCHF and I hate that they continually get lumped in the same category. I do not think that ketosis is the natural state for humans. I do not think LC or VLC suits everyone, but it has therapeutic benefits in certain conditions. To me – Paleo is eating a diet that is best suited to YOU as an INDI...

5 Healthy Snack Alternatives That Actually Burn Fat

Image
I am actually not a big believer in snacks. I think it is far more important to be having three good sized meals daily, therefore reducing the need for snacking. My reasoning for this is simple – many of our hormones like a good ebb and flow. When one is released… the other one is laying low until it is their turn – as is the case with insulin and glucagon. Insulin is mainly known as a blood sugar regulator – the guy who comes out and facilitates the storage of carbohydrates. But it is worth noting that both fats and proteins will also cause the release of insulin – however just not as much as is seen when carbs are eaten. Insulin is a ‘stockpiler’ of goodies – the one who helps to pack everything away. Glucagon is the counter partner for insulin. It likes to take the ‘stockpiled’ goodies when blood sugars are starting to lower and distribute them for energy use. We need both hormones to have their chance to do their thing… so what happens if we are only stockpiling? You guessed i...

5 tips how to deal with child temper tantrums

Image
Tantrums are unpleasant to watch from an outsider’s viewpoint. Imagine being the child’s parent. What is the definition of temper tantrums In a nutshell, temper tantrums are unplanned acts of anger. It is done for various reasons but primarily to get attention. They will last anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a very intense beginning. Children often yell, scream, cry, and swing their legs and arms. There are more severe temper tantrums. A child may even bite, hit, or pinch. Violent temper tantrums like this are often times a sign of a more serious problem and should not be taken lightly. Although temper tantrums are most common in children ages 1 to 4 years old, anyone can have a tantrum. There are children who have them every day. Tantrums are emotional explosions from your child. Some result from anger and temper, where the child stamps, kicks, hits and screams, while others are distress-related, where they cry, sob and throw themselves on the floor. They are usually m...

What is wrong with school lunches in America

Image
My daughter goes to a wonderful school. The school district itself is considered the best in San Diego. The neighborhood is equally impressive. An average home costs a million dollars. It’s the land of Range Rovers and Volvo SUVs. You would expect school lunches to be good, or at least, adequate. But that’s only wishful thinking. Last month we had the Parent-Student Lunch. We, the parents, could bring any kind of food to our kids. I asked my little girl what she wanted. She insisted on the cafeteria food. She always goes to school with a packed lunch. Buying lunch at school was a big deal. I agreed, especially hearing of all the changes in the last few years. Healthier lunches, more variety, no more soda options. I can’t believe what I found. Kids had three options: bean burrito, cheese pizza, or hot dog. There was a salad bar section with mostly green tomatoes and strawberries drenched in a sugar syrup. For a drink, she could choose milk, chocolate milk, water, or juice. There was...

5 Different Types of Cooking Eggs

Image
Each time I go to the store, I find myself staring at the egg selections, scratching my head. When did buying a simple dozen eggs become so complicated? All I want are some eggs from happy clucking chickens. That’s why I went on a hunt to figure out this madness. Trust me. This is great info! Regular Eggs Picture a huge egg factory with crowded chickens together in multi-hen cages. Because this type of industrial unit creates a great place for diseases, farmers add antibiotics to their chickens’ food in an attempt to prevent diseases. These chickens are also given hormones to boost their productivity and often fed genetically modified or pesticide food. Their eggs tend to be lighter in color, not as nutritious, and do not taste as good as fresh eggs. Since it takes a long time to get to the grocery store, these eggs are more than likely old. Cage-Free Eggs Even though this may sound a little better, these chicken still live in crowded, industrial hen houses. They do not have enou...
